We see many patients with Distal Radius Fractures. These injuries are unfortunately very common, especially in the winter months, when ice and snow create slippery surfaces.

This patient came to us with a very severe break in the wrist. The bones had been broken into several small pieces, or fragments. This type of break is called comminuted. A special plate with an extra hook attachment to secure the small fragments was used, allowing the patient to begin their rehabilitation soon after surgery, with the fracture properly secured.

These plates are made from titanium, and usually do not need to be removed after the fracture heals.
